Questions About Implementing Default Sensitive Labels in Microsoft Purview

Hey everyone! Hope you're all doing great. I have a question regarding sensitive labels in Microsoft Purview. We're currently working with a consultant to set up our information protection policies. Since we have E5 licenses, automatic labeling is part of the package. The consultant suggested that we shouldn't set up any default labels and instead rely entirely on automatic labeling. For instance, he is recommending using certain keywords, like 'memo,' for classifying internal documents. My concern is that if we go this route, we might miss out on a lot of reporting about label changes. Isn't it possible that many files and emails could end up without any labels? I'd love to hear your thoughts and experiences on this! Thanks!

Honestly, using Purview for data classification feels like trying to use a wrecking ball to change the time on a watch! Just be cautious with how you implement it.

I get what you're saying. Microsoft sold us on the E3 to E5 upgrade by saying everything is included.

Trust me, Purview can be a real challenge! We're currently using it and are considering switching to something more user-friendly.

You're spot on! If you skip the default labeling and solely depend on auto labeling, a significant amount of your files and data could remain untagged. It's a risky approach.

Ok, thanks for confirming. I will talk to the consultant again for clarity one more time.

I recommend taking your time before implementing any tech, especially if your organization isn't fully prepared or invested in it. It's crucial to define what your information classification means, like understanding that 'internal' documents can't be shared externally. Without clarity, it might signal that such information isn't vital for your organization.
