Can I fix my Alienware m15 R3 CMOS error myself?

I recently bought an Alienware m15 R3 laptop from Facebook Marketplace at a great price, but I'm running into a couple of issues. The laptop only turns on when it's plugged in and I keep getting a 'system cmos checksum bad' error on boot. I also ran a battery health test and it says no battery is installed. Is there a simple way to resolve this myself, or should I just take it to a repair shop?

It sounds like the laptop's battery is dead since it only powers on when plugged in. You’re definitely going to need a new laptop battery and a CMOS battery to fix the 'system cmos checksum bad' error. Make sure to grab both when you’re shopping around!

First, you’ll want to check what kind of CMOS battery your laptop needs. Once you know that, buy a replacement and install it. It shouldn’t be too complicated!
