Hey everyone, I'm really in need of some help here. I have an older USB hard drive that I've been using for gaming storage, and it's worked perfectly for about six years. However, as of yesterday, my computer doesn't recognize it at all. It's a WD (Western Digital), and the weird part is I didn't do anything different to my PC—just played some games and turned it off like usual.
The drive seems to be getting power, but I've tried a bunch of troubleshooting steps without any luck. I checked YouTube and followed instructions to use disk management to see if it was unallocated, but that didn't help. I also ran some commands in the command prompt to troubleshoot, restarted my PC several times, and even swapped out the USB cable with two others. I've plugged it into different ports that I know work, yet nothing does the trick.
This is especially frustrating because I have my Minecraft worlds on that drive, and it isn't even half full! Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a ton!

You might want to try using diskpart. Open the command prompt as an admin, type 'diskpart', then 'list disk' to see if the drive shows up there. If it appears, you can select it and assign it a letter (e.g., 'assign letter=z') to see if Windows recognizes it then. Here's a [link for more details](https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/administration/windows-commands/diskpart).
Sounds like a tough situation! Unfortunately, hard drives don’t last forever, and it might be time to consider that this one has seen better days. Sorry to hear that!
Does your external hard drive have its own power supply? If it does, see if you can find a compatible one. Sometimes power issues can cause these kinds of problems.
It’s showing power with the original cord, but I’m willing to try anything at this point, so I did check it and nothing changed.

I tried that already, but sadly it doesn't show up, even with the new cable and a working port. I'm starting to think it may just be a problem with the hard drive itself. Thanks for the suggestion though!
