I'm thinking about using the TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Ethernet Adapter Kit to help boost my WiFi signal at home. I'm curious whether I need to connect these adapters to my router using an Ethernet cable to make them work properly. Can they also extend WiFi without being connected directly? Is it possible to use just one adapter wirelessly, or do I need both to make them work together? I tried posting a product image, but I couldn't attach it for some reason.

Right, these adapters do not have built-in WiFi extending abilities. Certain models can act like access points but require both units to function and extend your WiFi coverage effectively.
Nope, these adapters don't have wireless capabilities. They're designed to work as Ethernet extenders. If you're looking for a way to boost your WiFi, you might want to add a regular access point in the area with weak signal instead. I switched to a mesh system after a few failed attempts with mine, and it worked way better for me!
Exactly! These are Ethernet extenders, not WiFi extenders. They transmit the Ethernet signal through your electrical wiring, so if you're looking specifically to extend WiFi, they're not the right tool for the job.
These powerline adapters don't function like a traditional WiFi extender. You have to connect them to each other using your home's electrical wiring, and then they serve as an additional WiFi access point. That said, how well they work can really depend on the quality of your home's electrical system. I eventually switched to a stronger router after trying these out.

Just to add, there are some powerline models that do include WiFi, essentially acting as access points. But you'd still need both units to make it work.
