Is My 8GB 5060 Ti Struggling Because of PCIe 3.0?

I recently bought an 8GB 5060 Ti for about $270, and I'm wondering if the PCIe 3.0 on my ASRock B450M motherboard is holding it back. My CPU is a 5600XT, which supports PCIe 4.0. I've been experiencing some FPS drops in games, particularly while playing at 1080p with medium settings and DLSS on balanced. It feels like excessive input lag, although it's not stuttering. My previous 8GB graphics card (also on PCIe 3.0 x16) didn't have these issues in the same games. I've noticed others with similar setups play at higher resolutions without problems, and they all seem to have at least a B550M motherboard with PCIe 4.0. Would switching to a 4.0 motherboard help at all?

I think you'll be fine at 1080p, provided you manage your settings. The 5060 Ti is a solid card—lower settings a bit if you have to.

In several modern games, accessing system RAM via the PCIe bus happens when your VRAM fills up. So yes, a new motherboard can help, but the better solution would be to get a card with 12-16GB of VRAM. There are benchmarks showing that a 16GB version often outperforms a lower VRAM card even on a PCIe 5 setup.

I agree, I just want my older card's stability back. I heard that PCIe 4.0 x8 should perform similarly to what I had with PCIe 3.0 x16, so I thought it would resolve my issues.

You're definitely losing some performance since the 5060 Ti utilizes only 8 lanes on your current setup. If you can, consider upgrading to a different card instead. Honestly, you might find better value in a used 3080 or a new 9060 XT with 16GB for around the same price.

I can't return it since I got it from someone who's moving, but I’m okay with the card. Just annoyed because my previous one performed better in some games. I thought going to a PCIe 4.0 board might help the situation.
