Is Anyone Else Experiencing Slowness with Word and Excel?

I've been receiving a lot of tickets from users reporting that Microsoft Word and Excel have been running really slowly over the past couple of weeks. My boss thinks it might have something to do with a recent patch that was released, but I haven't found any substantial articles discussing this issue. A temporary fix we've been using is having users restart their computers (since many keep them on all the time), and I've also had some success with updating Office from within the apps and disabling the Acrobat PDFMaker add-in in Excel. However, now I'm hearing from users who tried both fixes and are still facing the same slowness. Has anyone else been dealing with this?

I usually just run the online repair tool for users and let them know it's fixed, then close the ticket. They usually come back with another ticket soon enough, it's a never-ending cycle!

I wouldn’t be surprised if something on Microsoft’s side is causing this. We’ve had several notifications about Outlook add-ins and Teams issues lately. One of the biggest headaches was the My Templates add-in disappearing from Outlook. We’re still waiting for Microsoft to sort it out before we dig into our third-party add-ins.

It might be related to their cloud services. We've seen similar complaints about Outlook and Exchange causing slowdowns. Honestly, what can we really tell our users? Should we just contact Microsoft directly?

Exactly! There’s only so much troubleshooting we can do when the issue stems from Microsoft themselves.

Are you running these applications from the cloud or locally? I’ve noticed that local installations seem to perform better, but cloud versions can really drag.

Unfortunately, it's all cloud-based for us.
