I'm looking for recommendations on solid free or open source system backup software that can back up my computer to a NAS. Any suggestions?

UrBackup is a great option! It's open source and has worked well for me over the years. It’s pretty straightforward to set up and manage.

I've had good experiences with UrBackup too. Once set up, it mostly just works without any hassle.

Don’t overlook Veeam Agent for Microsoft Windows! It’s free for PCs and efficient in terms of storage use, plus it's schedulable for daily backups. If you're just looking to back up the OS, it’s a great option.

Going to check out Veeam! Ideally, I want something compatible with a virtual machine on Proxmox.

I recommend checking out Veeam Community Edition. It's widely used in the industry for its reliability, and it integrates well with VMware and Hyper-V. I've got a dual node setup with Proxmox, and I prefer using Veeam over other options. It just works!

Absolutely! Veeam is definitely the standard in the field. I also appreciate how efficient it is.

Have you tried Kopia? It's solid and has worked well with several clients I've assisted. Definitely worth a look!

If you're using Proxmox, don't forget about the Proxmox Backup Server. However, it's primarily tailored for Proxmox virtual machines, so I'm not sure if you can back up a physical laptop to your NAS with it.
