Looking for Budget-Friendly Computer Recommendations

Hi there, I'm in the market for a new desktop computer since my current one is over eight years old and really starting to lag. I'm on a tight budget—I haven't even figured out what that means yet—so I'm a bit lost. I've always used Mac in the past but I'm starting to think they just aren't worth the cost anymore.

I'm quite comfortable with DOS systems, dating back to my days on the original IBM PC with dual floppy drives and that classic monochrome monitor! While learning a new OS could be a challenge, I'm open to trying if I can share files with others using different systems.

Here's a list of what I need:
- Solid word processing capabilities
- Moderate spreadsheet functionality
- Gaming ability
- Access to streaming services
- A screen at least 24" diagonally for better visibility
- Social media and email
- Great sound quality (I'm hard of sight but have good hearing!)
- A color printer
- A CD/DVD/Blu-Ray player for offline entertainment
- A sturdy keyboard
- A UPS for power issues
- A new phone (considering moving away from Apple)
- An adjustable chair with lumbar support

Since I've held onto my old computer for so long, I don't need the latest features—as long as it meets my needs, I'm happy! I'm tired of waiting ages for Hulu to load, so any advice on a new computer would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for being kind to this 68-year-old Southern lady!

Since you've used Macs before, I'd suggest sticking with a Mac if your budget allows. You could get a 24" iMac for around $1669, which would serve your needs well! On top of that, keep in mind that most new systems don’t include a built-in CD/DVD drive, so you’ll need to buy an external one if you really want one.

Do you know anything about aftermarket keyboards? The standard Apple ones don’t work well for me, and I’ve been eyeing some ergonomic options. Also, I definitely need a good UPS with those Midwest storms!

It sounds like you really need a reliable system, and while I know you're on a budget, it's a bit tricky to make recommendations without a specific figure. Can you give us an idea of what you're looking to spend? You did a great job outlining your needs, though!

Okay, I’m thinking under $3K. Thanks for the encouragement! I’ve got a background in writing and purchasing, so I know how to describe what I need. I just don’t know much about the tech specs.
