I'm looking to upgrade my system with an i5 3570K processor and I'm curious about which RAM speed to go for. I'm planning to use dual channel, specifically two 8GB sticks. Would 1333MHz work for this setup? And is it possible to overclock?

Honestly, 1333MHz works if you're not too picky, but personally, I’d suggest aiming for 1600MHz at a minimum. If you plan to overclock, you might consider even faster sticks, like 2400MHz, but that’s for serious overclockers.

I used to have a 2500K with 1866MHz RAM, so I think you should be fine aiming for at least 1600MHz. Depending on your cooling setup, you could even push the i5 3570K to about 4.5GHz, which would help with performance too.

Before you spend your cash on RAM, why not look at getting a newer CPU? That might provide a better overall performance boost than just upgrading RAM.

1600MHz RAM is definitely the safest bet. Just keep in mind that this is an older CPU, so don’t get too excited about overclocking potential with RAM that slow.

Nowadays, DDR3 is getting pretty rare, so just go for the cheapest option. You don’t want to waste money on RAM that’s not going to give you a significant upgrade.
