Is choosing DDR4 for a budget gaming build a smart move?

I'm working on a budget-friendly gaming setup and have decided to go with an AM4 platform since DDR5 prices are quite steep right now. Here's what I'm thinking for my build:

- **CPU:** Ryzen 5 5600
- **Motherboard:** A520M or something similar
- **RAM:** 16GB DDR4 (2x8GB)
- **GPU:** Used RX 6700 XT
- **Storage:** 500GB to 1TB NVMe SSD
- **PSU:** 650W 80+ Bronze
- **Case:** Basic mid-tower with fans

My main goal is solid performance at 1080p gaming. I understand that AM4 might feel outdated, but the price-to-performance ratio seems appealing compared to DDR5 builds. Should I stick with this plan for 2026, or should I consider upgrading to AM5, which will take more time to save up for? I'd love to hear your thoughts!

If you're on a budget, going for DDR4 makes sense right now. I managed to grab some used DDR4 RAM for a steal, and it works great with Ryzen CPUs. Just make sure the RAM you choose pairs well with your motherboard!

I recommend upgrading to a better motherboard if you can. A B550 model would cater to higher power draw CPUs in the future and give you more flexibility down the line.

Would a B550M A PRO do the trick?
