How Can I Successfully Sell My New Movie API?

I recently developed a movie API and decided to list it on RapidAPI. I know it's only been a day since I posted it, so my expectations are realistic, but I'm wondering if RapidAPI is a good platform and whether people are actually purchasing APIs there. What other platforms are available for selling APIs on a monthly basis? Also, how long should I expect it to take before potential users start testing my API on RapidAPI? I'd appreciate any insights!

It’s great to put your API on RapidAPI, but remember, it’s a competitive space. Focus on creating a valuable product with excellent documentation. That’s what keeps users around. A great output structure and consistent response times can really set you apart! Charge based on high usage once you attract users.

Amazing documentation is crucial! No one wants to struggle with outdated info.

RapidAPI is indeed active, but don’t expect immediate results—give it a few weeks. Consider what makes your API unique. If it offers something TMDB or OMDB doesn’t, like niche data or faster response times, it will be easier to market. Also look into APILayer or even selling it on your own site to keep more revenue, though that route requires more self-promotion.

You’re in a tough spot since you’re competing with lots of other movie APIs. The key is to determine what sets yours apart. Making it easy to use and providing better, more detailed data can help. Keep in mind, some APIs never get traction unless they’re well marketed and established, so don’t just depend on RapidAPI traffic.

Thanks for the tips! I just listed it as a side project, and yeah, I have a lot to work on.

Honestly, selling a web scraper might not be easy, especially if it doesn't have unique features.

What issues do you see with it aside from latency?

GamerGuy007 -

The latency is a concern, for sure!

Just a thought, but where exactly is the data sourced from? That can make a huge difference in your offering.

It's sourced from IMDB.
