Is Upgrading to the ASRock RX 9070 Challenger a Good Move?

Hey everyone! I just ordered an ASRock RX 9070 Challenger with 16GB of VRAM, and I'll be getting Crimson Desert along with it. Currently, I have an RTX 4070 2X OC with 12GB of VRAM. My gaming involves playing titles like Call of Duty: BO3 custom zombies, PUBG, and sometimes War Thunder, mostly at 2560x1440p on a 32-inch monitor. I also dabble in ETS2 and other sim games at 3440x1440p on a 34-inch screen. Often, I notice that I'm maxing out my VRAM usage, hitting 12.2GB out of 11.7GB! So my question is, is this upgrade really worth it?

I think it's a solid upgrade! I made the jump from a 3080 (which is pretty similar to the 4070) to the 9070 XT, and it’s been great. The streaming encoder on the 9070 is noticeably better for Twitch, too.

But keep in mind, you're going for the non-XT version, which might have a different performance profile.

The value really depends on the price you got it for. I have a 3080, identical to the 4070, and I couldn't justify buying a regular 9070 at around $499—it just didn't seem worth the performance gain. But when the 9070 XT was priced at $599, that felt like a much better deal. It sounds like you really need the extra VRAM, so for you, it might actually be worth it, regardless of price.

I got it for about $790 here in Norway, which is tough since hardware options are limited. I could have opted for the XT version, but it was out of stock. The extra VRAM is crucial for me, but when I checked the FPS calculator on pc-builds.com, it says I'd get lower FPS. That's why I'm unsure if it's a worthwhile upgrade.

You'll get more VRAM and can expect about a 20-25% boost in performance for raster graphics. Ultimately, it's up to you whether the cost is justified. The 9070 is definitely a great fit for 1440p gaming overall.

But on pc-builds.com, I saw a prediction of lower FPS with the 9070 compared to the 4070, so I'm really questioning if it's worthwhile overall.
