Nautilus Only Starts from Terminal – What’s Up?

Hey everyone, I've hit a strange snag with Nautilus after updating to Ubuntu 25.10. Initially, everything seemed fine until I started using GNOME Remote Desktop. Now, Nautilus is only launching when I start it from the terminal. If I click the icon in the Dock or Show Apps, nothing happens. Once I run it from the terminal, I can interact with it normally. I've tried a bunch of troubleshooting steps like reinstalling Nautilus and checking the setup in org.gnome.nautilus.desktop, but nothing looks wrong. I'm at a loss for why this is happening. Any thoughts? Oh, and just to add – I did restart my system eventually, and that surprisingly fixed the problem. Still curious about what might have caused it though!

When you mentioned launching Nautilus from the terminal, did you run the command `nautilus` directly? If you haven't yet, you could also try using `xdg-open /path/to/nautilus.desktop` to see if that has any effect. Just a thought!

I wasn't totally clear about that, but I haven't tried that command yet. I'm a bit stumped on where to find that .desktop file, though! Is it the same as the org.gnome.Nautilus.desktop? Running the command on that just opens it in a text editor.

Actually, after all that, I just restarted my system and it fixed the problem! Still baffled why it happened in the first place, but thanks for your input!
