Is My Prebuilt PC Safe to Use After Breaking the Front Panel?

I accidentally broke the front glass panel of my new prebuilt PC while taking it out of the box. The panel shattered, but I don't see any broken glass pieces inside the computer itself. Should I risk turning it on, or is it unsafe? Any advice would be appreciated!

That sucks! It's always frustrating when something new gets damaged. You're fine as long as no glass fragments got into the fans or other components. Glass is an insulator, so it wouldn’t cause a short circuit. I recommend removing the panel entirely, but do it carefully since it might crumble. Once it’s off, give the interior a good clean with compressed air while the PC is off but still plugged in to keep it grounded. You can run it open until you get a replacement panel!

Not sure why so many companies use real glass now when acrylic cases were a thing before. I prefer the durability of plastic myself.

Open up the case and check that everything is still attached inside. You should be alright; just inspect it to make sure nothing came loose during the bump.

Congrats on breaking the glass! But don’t worry; the electronics behind it should be fine.

It's generally safe to use your PC, but be careful with that broken glass panel. Since it’s shattered, the glass can be unstable and might fall apart. A good idea is to use tape on both sides to hold it together while you handle it. If it’s glued on, you might need a razor blade to cut the glue. Just make sure to do this over something soft, so the pieces fall onto that instead of into the PC itself. And please use gloves and safety goggles to protect yourself!

You can use clear packaging tape too. Just make sure it stays in one piece!

If you've already taken off the protective covering from the broken panel, putting packing tape on it can keep it together. This way, you’ll know if any pieces are missing, and it helps to avoid cuts! Don't forget to reach out to your case manufacturer if you need a replacement.

You can use it without any real issues, but for your safety, I’d suggest removing the broken panel and any loose glass shards.
