What happens if your PSU isn’t powerful enough for your PC?

I'm curious about the consequences of using a power supply unit (PSU) that doesn't provide enough wattage for my PC. If I turn it on with an underpowered PSU, will it break any components or just fail to work?

It can technically power the PC, but expect it to shut down often because it can't supply the necessary energy. It's frustrating, trust me!

If you use a decent PSU, it should shut off safely most of the time. So, you shouldn't worry too much about damaging your parts.

Most of the time, as long as you aren't pushing your CPU and GPU too hard, an underpowered PSU will be fine at idle. But once those components require more juice, you might see crashes or shutdowns.

Seriously! I had to sift through so many comments to get to this point, lol.

Your PC will turn on, but it may shut off once the power draw exceeds what the PSU can handle. Good news is, it typically won't damage your hardware.
