Hey everyone, I'm preparing for a technical interview for an Azure Support Engineer role and I'm hoping to gather some insights on what might come up during the process. The role seems to focus primarily on infrastructure—like virtual machines, networking, and storage—rather than a high volume of tickets; it looks like I could be handling just a few complex issues each day. Currently, I'm in Level 2 support with some experience using Azure, mainly dealing with endpoints via Intune and Entra ID, so I'm not super deep into Azure's infrastructure side yet. I'm curious about the types of technical questions that are commonly asked in this kind of role. Should I concentrate on troubleshooting scenarios such as VM connectivity and network issues, or do I also need to prepare for theory-based questions? Any tips or things you wish you'd known beforehand would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

It's key to focus on customer satisfaction since managers appreciate good reviews from clients. Make sure to display your understanding of VMs and disk performance metrics, and show flexibility with both Windows and Linux systems. Even if dedicated teams handle more complex issues, it’s beneficial for IaaS support to be able to identify and potentially solve problems before escalating them.
It's definitely a mix of troubleshooting and foundational theory. They want to see your methodical thinking rather than just rote memorization. Be prepared for questions about networking basics and VM troubleshooting, but also leverage your experience with identity management as it’s relevant to infrastructure. It’s not as tough as you might think—focus on explaining your reasoning clearly since you'll need that skill daily in support roles.
Candidates who outline their troubleshooting steps alongside the tools and logs needed to diagnose a problem really stand out. This approach is often more impressive than simply offering a solution without explaining how they got there.
I’ll keep that in mind! Thanks so much 😀
For a CSP role, you’ll need a solid grasp of various topics like compute, storage, networking, security, and even automation. They typically test your troubleshooting skills by presenting you with specific issues to resolve. You should clarify your thought process while working through scenarios since that's what they'll be looking for.
It’s for a CSP, working with multiple clients rather than in-house. Thanks, this helps a lot! 😀
Good luck with the interview! Be sure to familiarize yourself with costs, billing, policies, and tagging, as these are often important aspects of the job. It's great that you're excited about the opportunity since it could lead you into a solid infrastructure role!
Thanks so much 😀 I'm really looking forward to it!
Interviews tend to focus on scenario-based questions rather than on trivia, so logical reasoning and decision-making will be critical. Some interviewers may be academic while others take a more relaxed approach. Generally, the interviews aren’t overwhelming, so just polish your understanding of the role specifics mentioned in the job description, and you should be in good shape.
That’s really reassuring! I was worried about the depth of knowledge required, but I’ll work on being clear in my explanations.

Thanks and yeah, they love the good reviews :)))
