What should I consider when choosing an affordable and reliable SSD?

I'm looking to replace one of my mechanical drives that's acting up, and I want to transfer my data to a new SSD. Ideally, I'm thinking about getting either a 2TB or 4TB SSD, but the prices are ridiculous right now—almost $500 for a 2TB! I don't need it for high-speed gaming, just something dependable that won't fail on me. I want to keep my budget under $150 if possible. What brands or specifications should I consider for a reliable and affordable SSD?

Every drive can fail eventually. A good approach is to get a portable drive to copy and back up your data periodically. You can just unplug it when you're done. If you want frequent backups, consider a second drive in your system, possibly set up in RAID for even better performance and safety.
