I've noticed that some staff are getting meeting requests with phishing content. While a few of these notices do get filtered, there are still 1 or 2 that slip through the cracks. It seems that even if an email is flagged as phishing, the calendar meeting remains. The catch is that when I try to delete these meetings, Outlook forces me to send a "Delete and Decline" notice, which I want to avoid because I don't want users confirming they've seen the email. Is there any way to delete these meetings without having to send a response to the original sender? Also, just to clarify, I'm not planning to switch everyone back to Classic Outlook since each version has its strengths.

It's frustrating dealing with the new Outlook, isn't it? From what I've seen, there's really no straightforward way to delete phishing meeting requests without sending a decline. You might try right-clicking the meeting in your calendar and selecting delete, then look for an option to delete without notifying. It can be hit or miss though. The ideal solution would be to use Microsoft Defender for Office 365's Calendar Quarantine or set up a transport rule to remove suspicious invites automatically. This is a known limitation, and it seems like Microsoft hasn't addressed it yet.
Honestly, the classic Outlook isn't any better in dealing with these phishing calendar invites. They'll also be inserted by the Exchange Server. So if you're thinking about switching users back, they might run into the same issues!
This is definitely a known issue with Outlook. Microsoft is aware of the phishing calendar invites problem, though there’s currently no universal fix. If your organization has Defender for Office 365, there are ways to mitigate some risks. You might want to check out the mitigation steps online—there are also rules IT can set up to block external invites entirely, allowing some exceptions.
