I'm curious if iCloud is a good investment for storing files. If I buy iCloud and upload my files there—either through syncing or manual upload—will they stay in iCloud if I delete them from my iPhone storage? I've seen comments suggesting that iCloud is more about syncing files across Apple devices rather than being a true storage solution. Any insights?

iCloud is mainly designed for syncing, but it also has features for optimized storage. For instance, with iCloud Photos, you can keep lower-resolution versions on your devices, while the high-res originals are stored in the cloud. So, if you delete photos from your device, they'll also be deleted from iCloud unless you're using optimized storage.

Do I need to enable optimized storage before syncing, or will it automatically adjust resolution for photos that are already synced?
