I have a modded 3DS where I've installed a Discord client, but my parents mentioned they might be able to see what I've been doing online through the Wi-Fi router. Can the router actually notify them if I'm active on Discord using my 3DS?

It really depends on how your parents have set up their router. Many newer models can track device activity and even set up alerts for specific apps. If they know what they're doing, they might be able to see if you're using Discord or not.

While the router might not notify them directly, if they've got serious monitoring tools in place, they can inspect the traffic. So, yes, anything you do on Discord could potentially be tracked depending on how their system is set up.

Yes, routers can see the data being sent to and from your 3DS, including requests to Discord's website. While they won’t see the actual messages because of encryption, they can log that you're connecting to Discord and might even be able to identify your device if they check their logs.

Just a reality check: if they pay for the internet and it’s their house, it might be better to be upfront about what you’re doing online. Testing boundaries is part of growing up, but being aware of your parents' perspective could save you some trouble.

If you're using a VPN on your 3DS, that’ll help keep your activity hidden. They’ll only see that you’re connected to a VPN, not what you're doing on Discord. But without a VPN, they might see your traffic unless the router is outdated.
