What Kind of Antennas Do I Need for My New Wi-Fi Card?

I'm building my first PC and just realized I need a Wi-Fi card, which has been a frustrating experience due to the lack of clear information on what parts to select. Finally, my Wi-Fi card has arrived, but I learned that I also need antennas for it. I find the information about antennas really confusing with all the jargon and acronyms. My motherboard is an MSI Pro H610M-G and the Wi-Fi card I've bought is the Intel AX210, which is M.2 PCIe. Can anyone explain what type of antennas I should get? Which ones are compatible and are there any differences in performance?

You actually need to look for antennas that fit your Wi-Fi card type. Since you have the Intel AX210, you should be looking for antennas with male RP-SMA connectors to attach to the card. You can find some options online that are compatible. Just make sure they match the specifications needed for M.2 cards like yours. Most importantly, check that your motherboard has the necessary ports for the antennas you choose!

Thanks for the tip! I wasn't sure if my board would support that. Do you think I need any specific type of antenna or will any RP-SMA work?

Your card is designed for laptops, which is why you're facing some compatibility issues. Make sure any antenna you get can handle M.2 connections. Look for something like a small RP-SMA antenna set, as this will fit your needs without taking too much space. When you're checking compatibility, also see if your motherboard offers any slots or connectors for the antennas to attach to.

Got it! Thanks for the heads-up. Is there a noticeable difference in performance between cheap and high-end antennas?

If your motherboard has that empty M.2 slot, you're in luck! You should get a combo set that includes the Wi-Fi card and antennas. It might save you a lot of hassle in the long run. Just look for a product that clearly states compatibility with your Intel AX210, preferably from a trusted source. And don’t forget to check the range—some antennas have really good performance while others can be more basic.

Great point! I've seen some decent combo deals that are pretty affordable. Would you recommend sticking to that, or does it matter if the antennas come separately?
