I'm gearing up for college this August and am realizing I need a laptop, especially since I'll be taking online courses. I don't know much about technology, but I'm considering a 2021 M1 MacBook Pro that's on sale for around $400, which seems like a decent deal. I've also come across the new MacBook Neo and it looks appealing. I'm not planning to do anything too intensive—just coursework and some browsing. However, I'm a bit concerned about buying an older model and whether it will last me a few years. Any advice on which laptop might suit my needs better?

Just a heads-up, check online to see which MacBook models are still getting macOS updates. I’ve had my 2019 MacBook Pro running fine, and it’s still supported. For context, I have an old 2009 MacBook Pro that still works for basic tasks but has some issues with newer software. Make sure to consider long-term software compatibility when you choose!
If you’re sticking with Apple, I'd say go for the Neo. If you're thinking of Windows, check out Lenovo or Dell. For Linux, a ThinkBook would be great! And hey, if you want a gaming laptop, just be ready to hang out by a wall socket with that battery life.
From what I've gathered, the M1 MacBook for that price really sounds like a great choice for basic school usage. It should last you several years without issues!
First off, check the software you plan to use for your classes and their system requirements. Then, make sure the laptop you choose meets those requirements before buying!
Honestly, both options will work well for your needs. But if the M1 MacBook Pro is in good shape, $400 is a steal! It's still quite capable for school tasks. The new Neo is nice, but unless you need the latest tech, the older model will probably serve you just fine. Plus, you could save some cash for other college expenses!
I would get the M1 over the Neo!
Stick with either laptop, but personally, I’d lean toward the M1 for that price. It’ll do the job without breaking the bank!

Amen!
