Why is my internet speed suddenly so slow?

A few months ago, I had fiber to the premises installed, and I was blown away by how fast my internet was. But recently, my download speed has dropped to under 100 Mbps and my upload speed is stuck between 1.50-1.70 Mbps. I've tried connecting via Ethernet, resetting the router, and changing every possible router setting, but nothing has worked. I also switched the connection cable to a DSL adapter, but that didn't help either. It seems like no one in my household is using up the bandwidth and there's no sign of a security breach. I've even tested my system's memory, but still no improvements. I'm starting to feel like this might be a router issue, but I'm not sure. I plan on calling my internet provider on Monday, but I'd love to hear any thoughts or suggestions in the meantime. For context, I'm using an Asus DSL-AX82U router, connected with Aussie Broadband, and my setup includes a Windows 11 Pro PC with an AMD Ryzen 7 7700 8-Core Processor and 32GB RAM.

Try bringing a laptop with an Ethernet port to the ISP’s network and run a speed test there. Make sure to do three tests in a row, discarding the first one. Also, check what speed your Asus router's built-in test reports. This will help you determine if the ISP is throttling your connection or if it’s an issue with your setup.

Have you considered factory resetting your router? That might help. Also, using the Aussie Broadband app to reset your NBN connection could make a difference. Definitely reach out to customer support too; they might have insights.

Have you checked if the slow speeds are happening just on Wi-Fi or if they're affecting devices connected via Ethernet too? Knowing this can really help narrow down the issue.

Yeah, the Ethernet connection has the same problem, so it’s not just the Wi-Fi.

It sounds like your ISP might be throttling your connection. Some providers impose limits if they think you’ve used excessive bandwidth. It might just resolve itself next month.
