Why is my internet speed capped at 100Mbps when I’m paying for 1Gbps?

I'm experiencing an issue where my internet speed is capped at 100Mbps, even though I'm paying for a 1Gbps plan. The ethernet cable seems to work fine with other devices that achieve the expected speeds. I've also checked the 'Speed & Duplex' settings on my computer multiple times and restarted it without luck. The router is providing 1Gbps to other devices in my home. What could be the cause of this issue?

It sounds like the device you're using might only support 100Mbps. Have you checked the specifications of your computer's network adapter? If it’s an older model, that could be the limit. Also, ensure you’re using a good quality cable, ideally CAT5e or CAT6, to support higher speeds.

Another thing to consider is whether there's any software like VPNs that might impact speed. If you’ve had it running before without issues, try a direct connection to the router and see if that changes anything. If you’ve previously experienced the full speed, there might be a software issue with your network adapter.

If you're still facing this issue, it could be a problem with your computer itself or the ethernet card. It could be worth testing with a USB ethernet adapter to see if that resolves the speed limitation.

You mentioned you've already checked your cable, but that's usually a common culprit. Also, make sure your network adapter drivers are up to date. Sometimes, generic drivers can limit speeds to 100Mbps, so installing the correct driver could help.

One last thing to check is the router itself. Some routers have ports that are limited to 100Mbps, while others support 1Gbps. Just ensure that you’re plugged into a port that supports higher speeds. If all else fails, a new CAT6 cable might just do the trick!
