Why is my PC’s internet speed so much slower than my phone’s?

I'm experiencing a strange issue where my PC's internet speed is significantly slower than my phone's. I've turned off WiFi assist on my phone and tested both devices in the same spot in my house. My phone pulled a speed of 133 Mbps download and 117.4 Mbps upload, while my PC is only achieving 1 Mbps. My PC uses an Intel WIFI 6E AX210 160MHz WiFi card. This problem started just today, and I'd really appreciate any tips on how to resolve it.

There are a few possibilities here. It could be a problem with your driver, or maybe there’s a bad or loose antenna. Also, consider that something might be blocking the signal path between your PC and the router, even if both devices are in the same general location.

Since this issue just started today, did you possibly install any new software, or maybe something updated? Sometimes a cleaning program can mess with settings, and it might not be obvious that it’s happening until you notice your internet speed drop.

It's actually fixed now, but I’m not sure what caused it!

Could you share your PC specs and operating system? That info could help narrow things down. A photo of your setup might also give us clues too!

Sure! I have a Ryzen 5 3600X, Radeon 5700XT, MSI B450M Tomahawk Max motherboard, and 32GB of DDR4 Trident RAM. The internet chip is in the description, and I'm located in Kansas City, MO.

It sounds like there’s definitely something off with your PC rather than your internet itself. First, I’d recommend forgetting your WiFi network on your PC and then reconnecting. It’s a simple fix, but you’d be surprised how often it works for issues like this. If that doesn’t work, check your WiFi adapter settings. Sometimes the adapter can switch to a slower band or get stuck in a particular mode. Updating or even reinstalling the driver might also help. And make sure there’s nothing running in the background that's hogging your bandwidth!
