Is Upgrading to an RTX 5070 Ti Worth It with My Current Setup?

I'm currently using an RTX 3080 Founders Edition paired with an i7-9700K and 32GB of DDR4 RAM running at 2666MHz. My GPU runs hot and the fans can get pretty loud. I'm planning to repaste and repad the GPU to address the heat issue, but I'm also considering an upgrade to an RTX 5070 Ti in case something goes wrong during the repasting. I'm curious about what potential bottlenecks I might face keeping my old CPU and RAM while upgrading the GPU. Any thoughts?

Consider sticking with a more powerful CPU upgrade instead of rushing to upgrade the GPU. Something like a 14600K with a compatible motherboard could be a solid choice. The RTX 3080 is still a strong card and may serve you well if optimized.

Before diving into a GPU upgrade, you might want to try undervolting your current GPU and improving your case's airflow. Also, keep in mind that your current CPU is somewhat of a bottleneck for the RTX 3080. Moving to the 5070 Ti with that CPU could worsen the situation significantly.

Before upgrading, have you checked the resolution you’re gaming at? If you're playing at 1080p, for example, your CPU usage might spike more than at 4K. A CPU upgrade will provide more noticeable performance gains than just swapping GPUs.

If you do go for a GPU upgrade without addressing the CPU, you might find yourself in a similar performance scenario. The 5070 Ti could be underutilized with your current setup. Upgrading both would ensure better overall performance.

It's all about what you're running; if your software is demanding, something in your setup will likely be the bottleneck—whether that’s the CPU, RAM, or even disk speed. The performance will also depend on your game settings. If it's biased towards graphics, the GPU could struggle.
