I recently moved my computer to a different spot in my room, and now it smells like heated copper. I figured it might be the power supply, so I replaced it under warranty with a cheap Thermaltake unit. I let the computer air out for a while, thinking that would help, but the copper smell came back. I also replaced my CPU fan, which is a Cooler Master MA410P knockoff, with the stock AMD fan just in case. I've cleaned the computer thoroughly, checked for any bulging capacitors, and even washed the air filter in my Corsair case. The smell is pretty strong – I can notice it from a couple of feet away. What could be causing this?

Have you checked if any power adapter cables are connected to your drives or fans? Sometimes a cheap cable can start arcing and melting, which could give off a really nasty smell. It can even be a fire hazard, so I’d definitely check all your connections to be safe!

I'll look into that as soon as I get my new PSU back. Thanks for the tip!
