Is it smart to sell some RAM to upgrade my CPU for better gaming?

I've got a solid gaming PC setup mainly used for moderate gaming and productivity tasks, but I'm considering a change. Right now, my specs include an AMD Ryzen 7 9700X processor with 128GB of RAM, which I initially got to run several virtual machines. However, I've offloaded those tasks to other hardware.

With RAM prices being high, I'm thinking of selling two of my 32GB RAM sticks, which would still leave me with plenty of memory for gaming and everyday tasks. I could use that cash to upgrade to a 9850X3D CPU for a potential boost in gaming performance. I play games at 1440P and want to ensure a smooth experience, but I also don't play the most demanding titles. Given this, do you think selling some RAM is a good idea to make this upgrade?

Your CPU is decent for gaming, but if you're not hitting any performance issues, maybe consider selling some RAM and even your GPU for a better model. You could get a nice upgrade with the money from those sales!

Exactly what I was thinking! If you sell half your RAM along with that graphics card, you could upgrade to a 5070 or 5080 and see a significant performance increase, especially at 1440p.
