I have a Dell Precision 3540 that has been reliable until now. Unfortunately, my original charger got frayed over time and finally stopped working completely. I bought a SIIG Universal Laptop Charger 90W from Micro Center, thinking it would be a suitable replacement since it has the same wattage. However, my laptop now only operates while it's plugged in, and even though the charging icon appears, the battery percentage remains at 0%. I've tried rebooting the laptop, checking connections, and uninstalling the battery drivers, but nothing worked. Does anyone have any suggestions on what could be wrong?

You might want to check the health of your battery. Even if it's just three years old, batteries can degrade and may need replacing. A calibration test could help with that.
It sounds like your new charger might not be compatible with Dell laptops. Even with the same wattage, many Dells have specific requirements for chargers. It could be worth investing in an official Dell charger; I had to do that with my wife's laptop to solve a similar problem.
Yeah, I’d avoid that for too long. It’s best not to let it stay at 0% for a week.
It's definitely possible your new charger just isn't implementing the right standards for charging. You might consider ordering an official replacement online. They’re not too pricey, usually around $20.
Dell's models typically won’t charge with non-Dell chargers due to how they authenticate the charger. You might want to look for a different charger that's specifically compatible with your model. Sometimes the universal chargers just don’t play nice with certain brands.
Yeah, I found that out the hard way too. It can be a hassle!
Thanks for pointing this out! Looks like I need to get an official charger then.

Is running my laptop when it's stuck at 0% okay for a short time? I know it's usually best to keep the battery healthy.
