Choosing the Best MacBook for Video Editing on a Budget: M5 Air vs Older Pro Model

Hey everyone! I hope you're all doing great! My fiancé is getting serious about video editing, and we need to upgrade her laptop. I'm trying to figure out which would be the better value option between the MacBook Air M5 with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage or the older MacBook Pro M2 with the same storage and RAM. Both are pretty much the same price, and we're located in Brazil where this kind of equipment is quite costly. We're considering only brand-new models but I'm curious if it's smart to look into used ones that have about 88-90% battery life. I'm also open to other suggestions you think might be better for video editing. Thank you, and apologies for any mistakes in my English!

The M5 is likely to outshine the M2 for video editing tasks. However, if your fiancé is going to be doing more pro-level work, I'd recommend looking for a model with more memory—like 24GB or 32GB. Running out of memory during editing can really slow things down, so it's better to have extra headroom.

Both models you’re looking at are definitely capable of handling video editing well, but the M5 does have the edge over earlier processors like the M2. That said, for basic tasks, you could even use an older Intel Mac and save some cash. Since you have the M5 Air as an option, it seems like the best bet out of the two you mentioned!
