Hey everyone! I'm trying to boost my PC's performance and would appreciate any advice you can offer. I'm considering eventually switching to AMD when finances allow, but for now I'm looking for cheaper alternatives or tweaks that could help. I'm not extremely tech-savvy, but I'm eager to learn more about upgrades. I usually just purchase parts and enlist my friend's help for installation, but I want to try doing it myself! Here's a rundown of my current setup:
- Motherboard: ROG Strix Z-490-E
- CPU: Intel I7-10700K 3.80GHz
- CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212
- GPU: Gigabyte RTX 4070 Super
- RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB, 2,400MHz DDR4
- Power Supply: EVGA GQ Series, 850W Gold
- Storage: 2 SATA SSDs and 1 HDD
- Cooling: 3 Noctua front fans and 1 Thermaltake rear fan
- Case: Corsair 5000D ATX Mid Tower
- Monitors: Main - Omen 27i IPS; Secondary - Asus VG 245

Upgrading your RAM could be beneficial too, as yours is running at 2400MHz. Your CPU supports up to 2933MHz, so that could help a bit with performance. Also, switching to AMD will mean getting a new motherboard and possibly RAM, but if you do, the 7800X3D is a fantastic choice to pair with your GPU. However, it's a good investment, so plan for it.
Your setup looks solid! If you're wanting to upgrade parts, consider focusing on your storage first. Adding a 2TB m.2 SSD could greatly improve boot and load times in games. Also, since your GPU is fairly new, maybe check out MSI Afterburner for some overclocking or undervolting options to get a bit more performance out of it.
I've heard about Afterburner but haven't used it yet. Definitely will check it out!
I definitely want to move to AMD eventually. Do you think my current 850W power supply would be enough for that?
