I recently bought an open-box pre-built gaming PC for about $2040 CAD, and it's been shutting off unexpectedly. When I ran a memory diagnostic test in Windows, it indicated that there's a hardware defect, but I'm not sure which part is causing the issue. Since I purchased it open box to save a bit of money, I'm worried about repair costs as I'm a student with limited funds. The PC is under a final sale policy, so I'm not sure how to proceed if they can't help. I could really use some advice!

You should check the temperatures first and try swapping out the RAM stick one at a time to see if you can pinpoint the problem. Since it's open box, there's a chance the RAM might have been swapped out for faulty ones. If your temps are off, consider reapplying thermal paste or replacing the CPU cooler. By the way, which CPU do you have? If it’s a 13th or 14th gen Intel, there are known issues that might require a BIOS update to fix.

The CPU is a Ryzen 7 7700x, and the temp is around 41°C. This PC only has one 16GB DDR5 RAM stick, so I might need to buy another one to test if that's the issue. Could it also be the motherboard? The diagnostics only said 'hardware defect,' so I'm not sure what to think about the other components.
