Why can’t I shut down my Windows 11 laptop after holding the power button?

I recently updated my Acer Nitro AN515-46 laptop to Windows 11, and I've been having an issue where I can't shut it down instantly by long pressing the power button. After the latest update, I tried to turn it off quickly last night, but it wouldn't shut down right away, which was frustrating. I've looked through the settings and control panel but haven't found a way to disable this feature. Any tips on how to fix this?

How long are you pressing the power button? Typically, you should be able to turn it off within about 6 seconds. If that’s not working, it could be an issue with the power button itself. Is your power button separated from the keyboard, or is it integrated like on some HP models?

If it’s just a quick shutdown you need, maybe close the laptop lid instead? That way, it’ll go into sleep mode without you having to force it off.

Maybe try letting the updates finish installing? Shutting down during updates can lead to more problems down the road. Although you can’t completely disable Windows Update, you can postpone it for a while. Just a heads up, updates usually roll out on the second Tuesday of each month!
