Is it normal for my RTX 5070 to only draw 5 watts from the PCIe slot?

I recently picked up an RTX 5070 ASUS Prime and connected it using an adapter. While testing it out during gaming sessions, I noticed that the power coming from the PCIe slot stays at just 5 watts. Is this behavior normal?

What app are you using to check? I found that my GPU is drawing more power than just 5 watts, so it might be worth cross-referencing with other monitoring tools.

That's pretty typical! Most modern GPUs like the RTX 5070 prefer to draw their power from the PSU directly rather than relying on the PCIe slot. The PCIe slot usually only supplies power for basic operations.

As long as your total power consumption for the GPU meets the expected limits, it doesn't really matter where that power comes from. The important thing is that it works without issues.

Yeah, the 5 watts you're seeing is likely just the minimal power needed to keep the GPU BIOS functioning. The main power for the RTX 5070 is supposed to come directly from the PSU, which is why the PCIe slot power is so low.

I think the max power supply from a PCIe slot is around 150 watts, but since the 5070 needs more, it naturally takes it from the PSU connector instead.
