My Windows 11 Lenovo LOQ 15ARP9 starts running games normally, but after a while the frame rate suddenly drops to around 4 FPS. I suspect thermal throttling because the laptop becomes very warm. I usually spend about two hours drawing while using it for reference images, then play games for up to an hour. I often use it on a surface that may block the bottom air intakes. What can I do to improve airflow, reduce temperatures, and keep my games running smoothly?

Start with airflow before buying anything. Use the laptop on a hard, flat surface and raise the rear slightly with a stand or a couple of sturdy objects, while keeping the bottom vents and exhaust outlets clear. If the vents or fans are dusty, have the laptop cleaned professionally rather than risking damage by blowing debris inside yourself. Also check CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming so you can confirm whether thermal throttling is actually causing the frame-rate drop.
Cooling accessories are not a guaranteed fix, and gaming laptops can still throttle when pushed hard. Lower demanding in-game settings, cap the frame rate, and consider reducing CPU or GPU power limits with the appropriate software. That can cut heat substantially with only a small performance loss. If the laptop is new and temperatures are unusually high, also check that its fans are working, vents are unobstructed, and Lenovo's performance or thermal mode is not forcing maximum power constantly.
A proper cooling pad can help, especially one with a sealed foam chamber that directs air into the laptop intake. Models from Llano, IETS, or Flydigi are commonly recommended, but make sure the fans line up with your LOQ's intake vents. A basic stand or cooling pad may be enough if the main problem is that the laptop is sitting directly on a surface.

What would you recommend using to raise it up for now?
