Laptop Keeps Typing “2” Even After the Keycap Was Removed

My laptop keeps entering the number 2 repeatedly even though I'm not pressing the key—and I've already removed the keycap. The constant input is making it difficult or impossible to open the Windows menu or use the system normally. What could be causing this, and what can I do to regain control of the laptop? I urgently need to use it.

The built-in keyboard is probably malfunctioning. Removing the keycap doesn’t disconnect the switch or the keyboard circuitry, so a damaged or stuck key can still send repeated input. A technician can disconnect the keyboard’s ribbon cable from the motherboard and test the laptop with a USB keyboard. If the repeated 2s stop, the internal keyboard likely needs to be replaced.

The repeated 2s don’t happen on the sign-in screen; they only start after Windows loads. Could it be caused by a driver or software setting instead of the physical keyboard?
