Is About 1 TB Written to a New SSD in Five Days a Problem?

I bought a WD Green SN3000 NVMe SSD five days ago and checked its SMART/NVMe health information. It shows firmware 131020RL, 0% percentage used, 2,083,481 data units written, 2,075,916 data units read, 26 power-on hours, and 24 power cycles. Should I be concerned about the amount of data written so soon after purchase?

NVMe data units are typically 512,000 bytes each, so that works out to roughly 1 TB written and 1 TB read. That is not an alarming amount for the drive, especially since the health indicator still reports 0% used. If you cloned an old drive, installed a lot of software, restored a backup, or copied a large game library, that would easily explain the numbers.

I was mainly worried because the drive is only five days old. Is that amount still considered normal?

The nearly equal read and write totals suggest a large copy or cloning operation rather than ordinary light use. SSDs may also receive some factory testing before purchase. Around 1 TB written is very low compared with the drive's expected endurance, so there is no obvious reason to worry based on these readings alone.

The exact total depends on how the monitoring tool displays the units, but even the likely interpretation here is fairly small for an NVMe SSD.
