I'm curious if anyone here has actually witnessed a PC catching on fire or experienced any kind of disaster related to overheating, whether it was due to the CPU, GPU, or other components. Anyone got stories?

Yeah, I’ve seen a video where a PC actually caught fire! It was pretty wild. You can check it out here: https://youtu.be/aJCb824tNKc?si=eubvEAEdRXB5OYwq
I haven't seen anything that dramatic but I had a scary situation with my AM4 build during lockdown. Something in the power delivery shorted out, and there was a small flare-up under the motherboard. I still have scorch marks on the tray! The Amazon CSR was super chill about it and even extended my return window when I told them my board caught fire. Also, back when I worked retail, I learned the hard way about grounding issues—burned out a hard drive when a molex connector was wired wrong, and it shot some tiny flames!
I've seen that video too! Honestly, though, it looked more like some dust getting blown out rather than actual flames.
