I requested access to Anthropic's Opus 4.8 and later Opus 5 through AWS Bedrock, but I haven't received a clear response. I subscribed to the $30-per-month support plan, and a support representative told me the request would be forwarded about a week ago. This is a new AWS account, so I'm wondering whether that affects eligibility. Is this delay normal, and is there a reliable way to escalate the request?

Delays like this do happen, especially with newer accounts and the more capable Anthropic models. Some people eventually get access after an internal escalation, while other accounts remain restricted for quite a while. It may be worth following up on the existing support case and clearly explaining your intended use, but there doesn’t seem to be a consistent timeline.
The access process appears to be a broader AWS problem rather than something limited to one account. Even customers with high-level support and internal AWS contacts report difficulty getting clear policies or timely approvals for the latest models. Following up with sales as well as support may be necessary, though it can still take time.
Support may redirect you to the sales team for these models, and some customers have been told that new accounts are more likely to be declined. If you already have a case open, keep all follow-ups attached to that case and ask for a specific explanation of the eligibility requirements and the reason for the delay.
Some Bedrock models can be enabled automatically when you use them in the playground or make the first API request. In those cases, the initial call may simply require accepting updated terms. However, the higher-tier Anthropic models have additional restrictions, so that automatic process does not always apply.
