I bought a new 20W charging brick for my iPhone 14 Pro because the previous charger became hot and developed a slight smell. I also replaced the charging cable, but the new charger behaves much the same way. It gets noticeably warm and has an odor when charging, even after trying three different wall sockets, including two extension leads. The iPhone charges normally with two other chargers, so I'm wondering whether the brick is faulty or whether this amount of heat and smell is expected. Should I stop using it and return it?

A charger can become warm during use, but a persistent chemical, burning, or plastic smell isn’t normal—especially when another phone charger works fine with the same iPhone. Stop using that brick and return or replace it rather than continuing to test it. Since it came from Amazon, also verify that it was sold by a legitimate Apple or authorized retailer, because counterfeit chargers can look genuine. Use a known-good charger directly in a wall socket for now and check the cable and iPhone charging port for damage or debris.
