Yesterday, an update for Monster Hunter Wilds kept restarting at 1%, so I left it for the night. The next morning, the game appeared to be uninstalled, and the Samsung SSD where it was installed was no longer showing up on my computer. It also didn't appear to be listed in Disk Management. After restarting the PC, the SSD showed up again. What could cause this, and should I be worried that the drive is failing?

Check Disk Management to see whether Windows detects the drive even if it doesn’t appear in File Explorer. If it’s missing there too, the issue is more likely the cable, port, power connection, or the SSD itself.
First, shut the PC down and reseat the SSD connections. Try a different SATA port and, if possible, replace the data cable. If the drive disappears again after that, it may be starting to fail, so back up anything important and check its health with Samsung’s drive utility.
Since it’s a Samsung 850 250GB, use Samsung’s SSD software to check the drive’s SMART status and firmware. A temporary disconnect can happen, but repeated disappearances are a warning sign. Make a backup now rather than waiting for the problem to become permanent.
I restarted the PC and the SSD is showing up again now. I’ll check its health and keep an eye on it.
