I'm finishing a new gaming PC with a Ryzen 7 7800X3D, Radeon RX 9070 XT 16GB, and a single 16GB DDR5-6000 CL30 Patriot Viper memory stick. I can't afford a second stick right now, so I'm wondering how much running in single-channel mode will affect gaming performance at 1440p. Will it cause major FPS drops or stuttering, or is it reasonable to add another matching stick later?

DDR5 systems handle a single 16GB module better than many older DDR4 setups, so don’t stress about it. Your PC will still perform well at 1440p; just treat the second stick as a worthwhile future upgrade rather than something you must buy immediately.

It’ll work fine, especially with a 7800X3D. A second stick would improve memory bandwidth and may help average FPS or 1% lows in CPU-limited situations, but at 1440p with this CPU and GPU, the difference is generally small. You shouldn’t expect a major performance problem for now.
