How can I give an executive assistant calendar delegate access without removing the director’s ownership?

I need to configure a director's calendar so their executive assistant receives notifications when meetings are requested and can respond or manage the calendar as needed. The director should remain the calendar owner, and the existing ownership setup should not change. I can configure this manually, but I'm looking for a backend or automated approach. The work may be done from a new laptop with no PowerShell environment configured yet.

The permission change itself is probably straightforward; the errors may be coming from the unconfigured PowerShell environment. If you automate this, authenticate with the required Microsoft 365 permissions first, then configure delegate access through Graph or Exchange Online rather than granting full ownership.

Set the assistant as a calendar delegate rather than changing the owner permission. Outlook on the web provides a delegate option, and the same configuration may be possible through Microsoft Graph. For a fresh laptop, you can use native PowerShell REST calls with Invoke-RestMethod, or install the Microsoft Graph and Exchange Online modules if you prefer their cmdlets.

Before automating anything, check whether a mailbox rule or standard calendar delegation solves the requirement. A delegate can receive meeting requests and manage the director’s calendar while the director remains the owner.

Yes, I’m specifically referring to calendar delegation—the assistant needs to receive and respond to meeting invitations for the director.

This sounds like a good fit for Power Automate or an Azure Logic App. It can react to meeting requests and handle notifications without building a custom email service in PowerShell.
