I'm a third-year Computer Science and Engineering student, and my six-month AWS free-tier period is about to end. I only need AWS for learning, coursework, and small personal projects—not for production systems with lots of users. Are there legitimate ways to keep using AWS for free or at very low cost, such as student programs, credits, or other account options?

Upgrading an account to a paid plan doesn’t necessarily remove access to applicable Free Tier benefits or promotional credits. However, the exact Free Tier rules vary by service and account age, so check the current AWS billing documentation carefully before relying on this. Set up billing alerts and budgets so unexpected usage doesn’t result in a charge.
Be careful with any cloud account you keep open. Delete resources you no longer need, check for items such as storage, databases, snapshots, IP addresses, and running instances, and review the billing dashboard regularly. If you’re finished with the account completely, closing it is safer than leaving an unused account exposed to accidental or unauthorized usage.
Check out AWS Educate. It’s designed for students and may provide learning resources, labs, and AWS access or credits without requiring the same setup as a standard personal account. Availability and benefits can depend on your school and location.
