I upgraded from a Ryzen 5 3500X to a Ryzen 7 5700X and noticed a significant temperature increase. The CPU sits around 50°C in BIOS and fluctuates between roughly 45°C and 55°C on the desktop with nothing running. When I tested it in GTA V, it reached about 83°C, even at low settings. The fans are also noticeably loud. I'm using an ARCTIC Freezer 36 ARGB cooler and am unsure whether the temperatures are caused by the thermal paste, cooler mounting, fan settings, or something else. I'm fairly new to PC building and would appreciate some guidance.

It’s worth checking the cooler installation anyway. Make sure the contact plate is sitting flat, the mounting screws are tightened evenly, and the thermal paste is spread properly. A pea-sized amount is normally enough; using too much or too little can affect contact, but the mounting pressure and alignment matter more.
The 5700X can run warmer and react more quickly than the 3500X, especially with automatic boost enabled. If the temperatures seem excessive after confirming the mounting and airflow, compare the readings under a consistent workload and inspect the BIOS voltage settings. For normal gaming, 83°C is not concerning by itself.
Check that the fans are spinning in the correct direction and that the case airflow is sensible. You can also adjust the CPU fan curve in the BIOS so the fans don’t ramp up at every brief temperature spike. Before changing anything major, check CPU voltage and make sure the cooler’s protective film was removed during installation.
Those temperatures are generally safe. A peak around 83°C during gaming is well below the Ryzen 7 5700X’s thermal limit, so it isn’t overheating. Ryzen CPUs can also fluctuate in temperature quickly, which explains the changing idle readings and fan noise.
I understand it isn’t reaching the high 90s, but the sudden temperature changes and loud fans still make me nervous. I’m wondering whether the cooler is responding too aggressively.

I used about a pea-sized amount and spread it slightly. The heatsink is tightened as far as it goes, although it can still move a tiny bit if I deliberately push it.
