I was given an MSI GeForce RTX 3080 Gaming X Trio 10G and want to install it in my current system. My build has a Ryzen 5 3600, Asus Prime B350-Plus motherboard, 32GB of DDR4-3600 memory, a Corsair TX750 power supply, and a Montech Air X case. The card appears to fit physically, but my current RTX 2070 Super uses one 6-pin and one 8-pin PCIe connector, while the RTX 3080 requires three 8-pin connectors. Will the new card work with my motherboard and power supply? Do I need any specific cables or adapters, and should I use separate PCIe cables? I'd also appreciate advice on possible upgrades, such as a CPU upgrade, to avoid performance bottlenecks and get the most out of the 3080.

The Ryzen 5 3600 may limit the 3080 in some CPU-heavy games, particularly at 1080p and high refresh rates, but it should still be a worthwhile upgrade. Check your motherboard’s CPU support list and update the BIOS if necessary before installing a Ryzen 5 5600 or 5600X. At 1440p or 4K, the GPU will usually be the bigger limitation, so you can test the system first rather than upgrading immediately.
The 3080 should work with your motherboard; the PCIe power connectors plug into the graphics card, not the motherboard. Your TX750 is around the recommended wattage for this card, assuming it’s in good condition. Use three 6+2-pin PCIe plugs, ideally with one separate cable from the PSU for each connector rather than relying on splitters or adapters. Make sure the cables are labeled PCIe/VGA, not CPU/EPS, and never reuse modular cables from a different power supply.
There’s no need to replace the power supply automatically if the TX750 is a reputable, healthy unit and has the required PCIe leads. The 3080 can have high power spikes, though, so upgrading to a newer quality 750W or 850W unit would provide more headroom if the PSU is old, damaged, or doesn’t have three suitable PCIe cables. Avoid cheap cable adapters, especially SATA-to-PCIe adapters.
