I have an ASRock B450M/ac R2.0 Micro ATX motherboard with a Ryzen 5 2600. I'm upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D and believe the motherboard needs BIOS version P8.01 or newer. I downloaded BIOS files from ASRock, but after updating the BIOS and installing the new CPU, the computer will not start. I'm not sure whether I selected the correct BIOS file or missed an important step. What is the correct update process, and are there any compatibility or motherboard-revision details I should verify first?

Make absolutely sure the board is the exact ASRock B450M/ac R2.0 model, not the similarly named B450M/ac or another revision. The BIOS files are model-specific. The revision or full model name should be printed on the motherboard itself. Download the BIOS from that exact board’s support page, extract the file, format a USB drive as FAT32, and use ASRock Instant Flash in the BIOS. Since this board does not have a USB BIOS Flashback button, leave the Ryzen 5 2600 installed while performing the update. Do not install the 5700X3D until the update completes successfully.

After the update finishes, shut the system down, unplug it, clear the CMOS, install the 5700X3D, and give the first boot several minutes. The system may restart multiple times while retraining memory.

The 5700X3D requires a sufficiently recent BIOS, but the version must match the exact B450M/ac R2.0 board. Check ASRock’s CPU support list and BIOS notes for any required intermediate update. If Instant Flash rejects the file, the file is usually for the wrong model, still inside the ZIP archive, renamed, or on a USB drive using the wrong filesystem. Also confirm that the update actually reports success before rebooting; simply copying the file to the drive does not flash it.

If the 2600 still boots, reinstall it and verify the current BIOS version after flashing. Then load BIOS defaults, save, and power down before swapping CPUs. If the old CPU works but the new one does not, recheck the exact model and BIOS support rather than repeatedly flashing unrelated files.
