Hey everyone, I need some help with a friend's Windows 11 Home computer that's currently acting up. He installed Avast about six months ago, but McAfee was there since he bought it brand new. I thought I had disabled McAfee when I set up Avast, but now it seems like McAfee is still running. There are all these alarming pop-ups claiming that he's got viruses and that his computer has been taken over from Russia. They all point to a website (prokermonantam.co.in) that looks super sketchy. Also, Avast has stopped launching at startup. I'm really not tech-savvy, but I need to figure out how to stop these issues. I tried to disable McAfee from the installed apps but couldn't. What should I do?

First thing, try turning off browser notifications. Sometimes, those pop-ups can be just that—annoying notifications. If that doesn’t work, you might want to run a scan with Malwarebytes; it's great at catching malware that other programs might miss. Also, take a quick look at your browser's permissions to see if any questionable sites are listed there. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, a clean install of Windows could be a good option, especially since you mentioned issues with McAfee and Avast.
I tried turning off notifications, but those pop-ups just keep coming! Can I use a different computer to download a reliable antivirus and then install it onto his? Is that even safe?
