I recently moved to Linux Mint, but the display is stuck at a 4:3 aspect ratio with a resolution of 1024×768. My monitor supports 1920×1080, yet the display settings do not offer that option and the monitor is not being detected correctly. My system uses an Intel i5-11600K, an RTX 3070, 16 GB of DDR4 memory, and a 2 TB NVMe drive. What should I check or change to get the correct resolution?

If the driver is installed but the resolution still does not appear, check the cable and input on the monitor, then run `xrandr` in a terminal. It will show which display output is detected and what modes are available. If the monitor is only being identified as a generic display, the issue is usually the NVIDIA driver, a faulty or limited cable, or an adapter that is not passing the monitor’s information correctly.
The first thing to check is the NVIDIA driver. Open Driver Manager in Linux Mint and install the recommended proprietary driver for the RTX 3070, then reboot. Also make sure the monitor cable is plugged into the RTX 3070 rather than the motherboard’s video output. If the correct driver and connection are being used, Mint should normally detect the monitor and offer 1920×1080.
