Should I Choose the RTX 5070 or RX 9070 XT for Gaming, Blender, and Local AI?

I'm choosing between an RTX 5070 for $630 and an RX 9070 XT for $670. This will be my first dedicated GPU after using integrated graphics, and I plan to game at 1440p when possible, use high settings, target around 240 FPS in lighter games, 144 FPS in mid-range titles, and at least 60 FPS in demanding games. I also want to experiment casually with Blender and run smaller AI models locally.

The RX 9070 XT offers considerably more rasterization performance and VRAM, which should make it the stronger long-term gaming card and potentially more capable with larger local models. However, NVIDIA generally has better support and acceleration in Blender, AI applications, ray tracing, upscaling, and frame-generation features. The RTX 5070 also uses newer memory technology, but its smaller VRAM capacity concerns me, especially if I keep the card for four to seven years.

Since I can't afford the RTX 5070 Ti, I'm trying to find the card that provides the best overall balance. Is the RX 9070 XT still usable for Blender and casual AI experimentation, or would the RTX 5070's software support make it the better choice despite its lower gaming performance and VRAM?

For your prices, the RX 9070 XT is substantially faster in normal gaming and has more VRAM. It should provide a more consistent 1440p experience, especially in demanding games where the RTX 5070 may need reduced settings or aggressive upscaling to stay near 60 FPS. The 9070 XT is the clear value choice if gaming is the priority.

That makes sense. I'm willing to accept weaker productivity performance if the 9070 XT is still usable for Blender and AI, since either card will be a huge improvement over integrated graphics.

The extra VRAM on the 9070 XT matters a lot for local language models because it can let you use larger models, better quantization, or a higher context size. AMD can run these workloads, but compatibility and setup are usually less polished than on NVIDIA. For casual experimentation, it should be workable; just expect more software troubleshooting.

At only $40 more, the 9070 XT is the better all-around purchase unless Blender and AI are more important than gaming. Its rasterization performance is much closer to an RTX 5070 Ti than to an RTX 5070, and the extra VRAM should age better over a four-to-seven-year ownership period. The 5070 makes more sense if you specifically need CUDA, Blender performance, or NVIDIA's upscaling and ray-tracing features.

I probably won't upgrade for several years, so the additional VRAM and gaming performance are appealing. I'll have to decide whether NVIDIA's software support is important enough to justify giving those up.

The RTX 5070 has the stronger software ecosystem. Blender generally runs better on NVIDIA, and CUDA support makes local AI tools, image generation, and video workflows less troublesome. If those experiments become a major part of your use, the 5070 may be worth considering, but 12GB of VRAM is still restrictive for larger models and future games.
